Roger Federer is a 20 grand slam champion. He is regarded as one of the best tennis players in the history of the sport. With all of that success comes great sponsors. Federer has been signed with Nike for nearly a decade of his career. He has his own Nike line, shoe, and apparel. In addition, Federer has partnered with Wilson for his racquets.
However, the tables turned, when in 2018 Federer decided to leave Nike and instead sign with Uniqlo. The deal was reported to be worth $300 million for 10 years. This certainly seemed like an upside for the tennis star. However, it is still unclear of what the details look like. We don’t know if Nike will continue to produce Federer branded clothes, and it appears from Roger’s recent matches that he will still be sporting Nike shoes. Uniqlo doesn’t manufacture their tennis shoes and Roger still appears to wear Nike shoes from his recent matches. Novak Djokovic is still a brand ambassador of Uniqlo, however, just like Federer, Novak prefers to rock the shoes with his earlier sponsor: Adidas.
In terms of the apparel line for Uniqlo, Roger has been spotted wearing the classic white shirt and white shorts. However, during night session, Roger still wears navy blue outfits. Uniqlo has also supplied the athlete with his own custom-made t-shirts that have cool designs on them.
In the end, Nike was definitely a turning point, if not a catalyst for Roger’s entry in the mainstream market. With Uniqlo, Federer hopes to bring back the RF brand and I’m definitely excited to see what shirts will be released by Uniqlo. As for Nike, it hasn’t been made clear yet what will happen to the Federer line. In the end, Roger Federer has held an unparalled record and is viewed as a promising face to any brand.
